Surgery

What type of Surgeries do you offer?

We offer surgical procedures for a variety of different conditions. Some of our more popular surgical procedures are bunion/bunionette removal, fixing hammertoes, removal of ingrown toenails, and removal of foreign objects from the feet. The minimal incision technique is often used for different surgical procedures. All surgical procedures are performed by Dr. David Scherer, D.P.M., P.A. in our Fort Lauderdale office.

What is the Minimal Incision Technique?

The Minimal Incision Surgical Technique does not require pins, metal rods, screws, or plaster. Surgery is performed in-office and does not require any hospitalization. Dr. Scherer, D.P.M., P.A. may use one stich to close the surgical area, but this may vary from case to case. We use a local anesthetic so that the patient is awake throughout the entire procedure. The surgery may take 1-3 hours to perform.

How long is the recovery time?

The recovery time varies per person. We suggest staying off your feet and resting for the length of time dictated by Dr. David Scherer, D.P.M., P.A.

What should I do to prepare for surgery?

Dr. David Scherer will discuss preparation for the surgery during the consultation. We do suggest showering the night before any surgery.

Will I be able to walk after having a surgical procedure?

Yes, if you were able to walk before the surgical procedure was performed, you will be able to walk after.
